Problems plague animal shelter

Few officials disagree that the Cass County Animal Shelter fails to meet the needs of the dogs and cats brought there daily."It needs to be better. It has to be better," said Kim Kesler, director of the animal shelter. "The things I see out here are heartbreaking."Many of the animals at the shelter are strays that have either never had a home or been dumped or abandoned by their owners. Others are pets picked up by animal control."People need to know what we deal with every day," said Kesler, who is also the president of the Cass County Humane Society. The building needs to be larger to accommodate a proper layout of dog kennels and specialized rooms. Some issues present dangers to the public."We don't have a section for bite cases to be out of public view like they should be," Kesler said. "That's dangerous for the public and our staff."According to Kesler, air quality in the current facility is poor, as is sanitation.

2008 Ford Mustang

Once we were young men. Old men now, we dream of getting a car that in our youth may have escaped us. But that car has always been at the forefront of our masculine existence.

Many a hot, late summer afternoon and moon lipped night have been spent dreaming of a new car. When I was a lad, new cars were introduced in the fall. GTO, Impala, Corvette, and Mustang were constant companions in my dreams growing up. My two favorite dream subjects were the Ford Mustang and a cheerleader named Sandy Smith.

I worked hard, saved my money, but was never able to get the Mustang. I lost Sandy, too, probably because of little money and no Ford Mustang. Well, I don't know where Sandy is today, but for the last week a Ford Mustang has been sleeping in my garage.

Over 40 years have passed since high school, and in some ways my life didn't go quite like I had hoped.

Absolutely, incredibly, utterly wrong!

Its not everyday that the government sponsors a premier league football club -I wonder how long Northern Rock will continue to sponsor Newcastle Utd FC. If so how could the govt square subsidising premiership footballers exorbitent wages whilst pensionners are having to choose between food or heat and sell their homes to afford care despite having paid tax and NI all their working lives. Perhaps Gordon Brown will now be able to put some meat behind his proclamation of 'British jobs for British workers' and get rid of Newcastles non British players like he’s getting rid of non-doms.

Assam tea industry hails budget, opposition unimpressed

GUWAHATI: The mega tea industry in Assam Friday expressed satisfaction over the allocations in the union budget for tea research and boosting production.

"We are happy that the central government has decided to lay stress on research and development in the tea sector and also earmarked funds for revamping tea bushes and improve overall productivity," Debeswar Bora of the Assam Tea Planters' Association (ATPA) said.

The 2008-09 budget has allocated Rs.400 million ($10 million) for Special Purpose Tea Fund and Rs.200 million ($5 million) for tea research.

Assam contributes over 50 percent of India's total tea production of 900 million kg a year. The state has over 800 tea plantations.

The state Congress unit hailed the budget, calling it "pro-people".

Extra! UIdaho Student Found Shot to Death

After a year or two on the job, they make good money and benefits, in addition to the amenities of living in this area. How many in our county are paid $30.00 to $45.00 or more an hour, including benefits? A number of them are two teacher families, and have an RV and boat parked in their driveway. The IEA is a UNION!
While, there are many dedicated, excellent teachers, a lot only look at the bottom line, and are able to hold our children hostage until they get more salary and benefits.

Arpie: I just got out my December 06 pay stub so I could tell you what last year looked like. At age 48, having taught since 1981, my gross pay was a little less than $46,000 last year. Subtract from that $7,000 in taxes, including social security: $6,000 for my familys health insurance, and $3,000 for my half of my retirement, and the total dwindles quickly as it does for anyone that is trying to support a family.
